More Fruit Trees

We have bit the bullet and are finally adding some more fruit trees to our orchard.
This has been something we have wanted to do since we moved in and started maintaining it. But, for various reasons, we just haven't. Until now.

And of course we can't just buy fruit trees and be done with it. There has to be a story involved.

Almost 2 weeks ago, I was at a local store doing some shopping. They had a small bunch of fruit trees for sale on their sidewalk. I told hubby about it and suggested that if he had time the following day, after he cashed his paycheck, that he should swing by and see if there are any he likes and can fit in his van to bring home.

The next day, on his way to check out the trees, he called me. He wanted to know how many he should get and what kinds. Does anyone else ever have this problem with their husband? He knows the answers to the questions, yet it just NEEDS to you tell him anyways.

So, to make a long story short, the crutch of our conversation was that he was to purchase no more then 4 trees, and whatever he chose to get, at least get a cherry tree. I have a lot of inquiries from people interested in cherries. You got that - CHERRY TREE.
Get.a.cherry.tree.

So of course, he had to call me again, while he was there, staring at the trees, to tell me the different varieties available. The crutch of this conversation was 'Sure, a Bradford Pear tree sounds good, definitely snatch one of those Winesap Apple trees and GET A CHERRY TREE'.

You guessed it. He called me...AGAIN...after he made his purchase.
He bought 8 trees, none of which were a CHERRY TREE.

I am sorry, what part of our 900 conversations did he not understand?

He bought 2 Winesaps - check
He bought the Bradford Pear trees - check
He purchased an additional 4 trees - plums & peaches, no cherries - no check.

These 8 trees better grow freaking $100 bills!

Oh wait, those Bradford Pear trees that I told him to get [as in, he only bought them because I told him to, but I also said GET A DAMN CHERRY TREE, and he didn't], yeah, those Bradford Pears aren't an edible Pear!

This is rather hilarious since we try to consider ourselves fruit farmers.

So I returned the Pear Trees and bought my FREAKING CHERRY TREES.
And now, the new dilemma begins - just where do we want to plant them.

Ladies, please raise your hand if your husband puts you through ridiculous, unnecessary charades of the likes. Male readers - I apologize in advance for any sterotype that has evolved from this blog post.

Leaving your Husband Home Alone

Yesterday was an extremely busy day for me from before sun up until way after sun down! I was traveling for my day job and had a guest-speaking appearance to talk about our Orchard in the evening. I probably clocked 500+ miles driving yesterday.

In any event, yesterday was my moms day to watch the babe while I was at work and she was able to watch him into the evening as well. This, I figured, would be easier for my husband so he could get some picking done in the Orchard when he got home, and hopefully accomplish a few other things, since our to do list is as long as the miles I clocked yesterday.

So, hubby is home alone all evening. All he has to do is turn out the horses (and bring them back in for the night with some dinner), feed and walk the dogs and at the least, pick.more.apples.

When I got home, around 10ish, the sink, which was empty and clean when I left in the morning, housed enough dirty dishes for a dinner party for 3-ish!? And I guess he thinks the dishwasher houses boxes of food because he clearly doesn't get that it holds DIRTY DISHES.

This morning, he came in frazzled (whats new!) after he fed the horses; seems the donkey was sharing a stall with Romeo (because someone forgot to lock their divider door) and Romeo was still wearing his halter and lead from being brought in from the pasture last night!!!

Now, all I need to do is figure out what the heck could have caused such chaos for the husband, being home alone last night, for him to have left things in such disarray! I assume it was because I wasn't home to hound him ;)

Labor - A Male's Point of View

My husband just gave me a glimpse into his thoughts on how he envisions labor and delivery of our first born to go. Oy, if he is right, we might as well sign over movie rights for the horror genre now!

I don't know that I care to bore you with every detail, but it seems he envisions me turning into a spawn of Satan that will be ripping his arm off and whose hair will look like I just stuck my finger in an electric socket.

All the while, he envisions lots of 'water'. Uh, I don't know what Health class he took, but I think he might be seeing more than water!!

And he also seems to think the nurses may be busy tending to him, rather than me, after he passes out!

Oh joy! I can see it now, we'll be on the way to the hospital and I will be giving HIM the pep talk to breath and relax.
