The 'Hunter's' Wife

This week is gun season for the deer hunters.
My husband is a deer hunter. I will leave it at that.

I asked him if he realized that the text he sent me this week, and then this photo, while he was hunting, was giving me blog material. He wasn't thrilled because he thought I would rip on him for his lack of *ahem*, deer caught! (Note: I realize the proper term is 'killed', not 'caught', but I like the word 'caught' better! And it drives him nuts)

Anyways, on Monday, while he was hiding in a bush somewhere, I text him a 'well check'. This means I want a response to know if he is alive. You know those hunters - no matter if you are in a blinding orange vest, this is why my horses have to stay inside all week. So, this was the preceeding conversation we had via text:

Allen: Seen big 8 150yrd
Me: Well get it!!!
Allen: Well it went in the pines
Me: Story of your life

So then, a few hours later, I sent another 'well check' text and received the above photo in response.

The sad part of all this is when I get a text such as Seen big 8 150yrd and I KNOW what that means! And I have committed to cooking with the venison if he brings any home - now that's a wife, right!

Hi Allison

First of all your magical unicorn is just too beautiful. The top picture really is heavenly. What a lovely face Apollo has. I hope little boy is well and a safe hunting trip for your man~

Warm regards

We nurses wish all hunters would hunt from the ground like your husband and not up in tree stands from which they fall, sometimes with disastrous results and from which beer should be banned.
That being said, I like venison :).

My MIL always asks if I 'caught' one!! That is too funny!

Well, I hope hubby catches one safely too!

My honey is off hunting too, though there's no cell coverage where is he is no there are no checks unless he's taking a deer in for processing and goes into Wooster. Lucky for us so far he'd got 2 and we're hoping for a few more (yep we eat a lot of venison and our animals do too if we get enough).

Hopefully your honey comes home with one as it will come in handy for the Dark Days Challenge! So glad you're joining us, can't wait to see what you come up with!

I know what it means, too. My boyfriend just laughs at the city girl in me, and tries to teach me new things. He made me hold the antlers up on a deer a few months ago. It was so gross and I did it with as few fingers as possible. ha

I've got a hunter, too, and still haven't found a good way to cook venison (this could be mostly due to the fact that I am not a good cook in general! LOL!). If you have any good recipes, i'd love to hear them!

Camille - I wish I had a fantastic recipe to share, but I am still learning on this one myself! Depending on the cut of meat, I have read sometimes the best prep is to just grill it with salt & pepper! I guess it is an aquired taste ;)
