Harvest Monday, August 21, 2011

Another Harvest Monday! Last week was a tad slow. I think I picked more than this, but I can't remember and didn't get a photo of it :) We've been busy in the orchard. To see some of the Apple & Pear's we've harvested this past week, check here or here.

As for this harvest basket, the last of the garlic that was drying, some yellow wax beans and the last of our broccoli. I did grab a few KY Wonder Pole beans from the trellis last night for dinner too :)

Check out what others are harvesting for Harvest Monday over at Daphne's Dandelions and Garden Tuesday over at Sidewalk Shoes!
And now that the Orchard is in season, expect to be drowning in posts about Apples...and some Pears....and some Quince!

Grilled Veggie Medley - The Best You Ever Had!

Hubby & I did some harvesting from the garden Thursday evening. Then he took most of the harvest and created what was the MOST delish veggie medley I have ever had [since last summer] on the grill!

All winter I thought about how I couldn't wait for garden harvest's because my husband throws them on the grill and whatever it is he does to them, they are certainly 'the best I have ever had'. For those family members reading, I am sure you are laughing! You see, for those non-family members, my husband has this ongoing, a tad annoying, joke that anytime he cooks something, he proclaims it will be 'the best you ever had'.

But seriously, when he does this with veggies fresh out of the garden, it IS the best I have ever had.....every time! As soon as I get him to fork over his secrets, I will post the recipe.

This mix was carrots, summer squash, mammoth snow peas, onion and broccoli.....gosh my mouth is watering....and it isn't even noon!

Ready for the Grill

Harvest Monday, July 5

I am a little late on my harvest monday post! Almost 1.5 hours away from Tuesday ;) None the less, better late than never....and I hope I am remembering most of the weeks harvest! It was a busy past week over here.

My Cucs are coming along and I picked these beauties clocking in at 2.213 pounds. I made a new fridge pickel recipe with them and they were a hit on 4th of July! Now if only I can remember what all I put in the recipe ;)

Our broccoli has been producing like wildfire and I am just about broccoli'ed out ;) This week we harvested almost one pound, clocking in at .818 of a pound. I think maybe there was a little more picked one day that I forgot to weigh in.

Our carrots are not done yet, but I couldn't help picking some ;) I pick some and hand them over to the horses for a sweet treat from time to time and this past week, I picked these to roast with our broccoli. These beauties weighed in at 2.61 ounces.

And, the Mammoth Snow Peas that I recieved seed from Daphne on are finally coming in! I was worried I planted them too late and wouldn't have a harvest. We have been picking and eating off the vine all week while we were in the yard, but this batch I was able to weigh; they clocked in at 2.50 ounces and they are super delish!

Harvest Monday, June 28

Things are coming along in the garden. We are at the point where it isn't a complete, frenzied onset of produce so if I see something but would rather wait for a few [i.e. Cucs] I can let them hang another few days until one another is ready.

I made some wonderful Basil Pesto with the Basil I have going in the herb garden and I tried a dip with Radishes. You can see those recipes here.

For this weeks totals:

A Head of Cauliflower weighing in at 1.517 pounds!
We like to fry ours up in a pan with butter and garlic.
Some Heirloom Red Onions weighing in at 2.43 oz

And 2 Pickeling Cucs weighing in at .448 Pounds!
I'll do these up in a Fridge Pickel style recipe

And in this pic, with my harvest, are some onion tops I trimmed and used some in a stirfry. I just also realized I completely forgot to record the broccoli we harvested Saturday! But it sure was tasty in the stirfry!

BONUS Harvest! Hubby found a Wild Raspberry bush on our property! How did we not see this before???

Harvest Monday, June 20

Welcome Harvest Monday! As usual, I harvested a ton of my herbs as I went through the week while I cooked. Some Dill in Fridge Pickels, Basil & Oregeo in pasta, Lemon Balm in my Sun Tea, Cilantro in my Kale/Rice/Chick Pea dish and the list goes on and on! I bet if I weighed my Parsely, it'd be 500 pounds!! Ok, maybe not 500 but.....

So this week, we harvested 5.82 oz and the last of our Easter Egg Radishes. Two bolted so I left them to go to seed and then I can collect them and replant next year. Any suggestions for what to make with these radishes? This is the first year we've grown them. My husband eats them raw but I'd like to do something else with them!

We also harvested more Broccoli, 3.32 oz. I cannot believe the Broccoli we are having this year! Our cauliflower is close too!

And now a question for all you 'Harvest Monday'ers' out there ;) How do you grow your carrots?

Our patch is full and I read that you should thin out to no less than 2" apart. Here is a stack of what my husband pulled last night as he thinned a few rows. There were already tasty little nibblers there!
Here's to a good week :) Stay cool out there!

Harvest Monday

I'm participating in Daphne's Dandelions 'Harvest Monday'!

And I guess this would be our first official harvest for 2010.....minus the herbs. I am bad about tracking the herbs since a lot of the time I am just running out there snipping off some to throw into dinner. Although, yesterday, I took a huge bunch of Parsley to my mom.

.126# of Easter Egg Radish

We probably would have had a tad more but hubby ate one before I could weigh them in. Hence the greens with no Radish on the right!

.520# of Broccoli

Our Broccoli was starting to bolt and so we had to start harvesting.

And last, our Garlic Scapes came in at 1.83 oz.

And it is all still in the fridge waiting for me to decide what to do with it all tonight :)

If you have a recipe that uses scapes or radishes, please feel free to send my way! I also have Strawberries, Rhubarb and Bok Choy I purchased at a Farmer's Market this weekend that I need to cook up!

Happy Monday!
