And so it begins....

Well, I guess the time has come that I finally have to remove my belly button ring! Ok, fine, it's been 10 years, I need to get over it ;) I'll be 30 in a year and a half :0 - what business does a 30 year old with a kid on it's hip have having a belly button ring. I know, I know.

So, as my wordless Wednesday suggests, yes, I am expecting. WE are expecting. I am the one who is pregnant! I am the one with this spawn recking havoc on my body at the moment! And I am the one who has been absent from her blog for weeks now because the last post was a recipe with pictures....and because a lot of blogs I follow are foodie blogs.....and because even the mere thought of food, at the moment, makes me want to puke and then die. Oy!

This will be our first [human] child! I say 'human' because I think one of the first things my mom asked when we said she was going to be a grandma again was "To an animal or a baby?"

And, as usual, like everything else we do, we'll certainly be novices in this department. Running a farm AND caring for a child? Oy! Lord help me now.......

For starters, I would like to know who created pre-natal pills that are large enough for a HORSE and leave a vanilla taste on your tongue??? Do you think a nauseous, hormonal pregnant woman wants to swallow THAT?

I digress.....

Hal's Grilled Veggie Medley

Ok, for all those waiting, I finally got hubby to cough up his 'secret' to his perfect veggie medley!
And fyi, hubby's name isn't Hal, that is an inside joke nick name for him ;)

Take a cookie sheet and form foil to it; then remove foil from the pan and onto the grill.

Place your sliced veggies onto the foil. We used a summer squash, broccoli, snow peas, onions, carrots and garlic. He also threw in some fresh garden herbs; cilantro, basil and parsley.

Next, coat your veggies with some Olive Oil.

Now, sprinkle over your medley about a 1/4 tsp of each of the following (of course, adjust serving size to your own tastes):

  • Crushed red pepper

  • garlic powder

  • onion powder

  • lawrys seasoned salt

Sautee on grill till squash is tender. Add in some shredded parmesan cheese and let it melt a tad, then remove from grill and serve. Enjoy!

Harvest Monday, July 12

We had some wonderful harvest's this week! Lots of herbs which I usually don't weigh...but I should!

This beautiful Cauliflower came in at 4.546 pounds - we ate some and froze the rest.

We also had out first pepper of the year, this hungarian wax pepper. I didn't weigh it ;)

The cucs have been coming in like crazy and I LOVE it! I have been doing fridge pickles galore and they last but a day. I came up with my own, yummy recipe, which I will post soon. This is just one cuc picture, but they all weighed in at around 2 pounds total I believe.

We are nearing the end of our broccoli. This harvest came in at 2.57 oz

We picked some more carrots to enjoy with dinner; this bunch at 3.39 oz. I pick some for the horses too, which I don't weigh ;)

We also picked some more red onions and one Walla Walla [on accident]! These came in at 4.48 oz

This early yellow squash was DELICIOUS! 1.358 pounds

This was our first Zuch harvested. I am not much a fan of them but I think we usually plant on plant because it seems like you have to have them in your garden! This one weighed in at 1.049 pounds and it is sitting in my fridge waiting to be shredded for Zuch bread ;)

Our Mammoth Snow Peas are producing faster than we can eat; I wish we had a vaccum sealer and larger freezer space! These came in at 4.69 oz.

To see other harvest reports from the week, check out Daphne's Dandelions.

And if you haven't already seen it, check out my husbands "Best You Ever Had Grill Stir-Fry"!
We used a lot of the veggies in it and it was delish! I will share the recipe soon!

Lemon Blueberry Loaf

Lemon Blueberry Loaf

This recipe was SUPER easy and is SUPER good :) I found it on Tasty Kitchen, a recipe by How To: Simplify and then couldn't resist making an addition to it - adding that special 'farm' touch ;)

You Need:

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 3 tbs oil
  • 2 cups AP Flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2.5 tbs Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 Cups of Blueberries
  • Zest of One Lemon (shhh, this is my 'farm touch' secret!)
Wisk the first three ingredients together. In a seperate bowl, combine all other ingredients except the blueberries. Then add the dry mix to the liquid mix just until combined. Fold in your blueberries and then pour batter into a bread loaf pan that has been greased and lightly floured.
Bake on 350* F for 55-60 minutes - cool for 10 on rack - then remove from pan - ENJOY!

Grilled Veggie Medley - The Best You Ever Had!

Hubby & I did some harvesting from the garden Thursday evening. Then he took most of the harvest and created what was the MOST delish veggie medley I have ever had [since last summer] on the grill!

All winter I thought about how I couldn't wait for garden harvest's because my husband throws them on the grill and whatever it is he does to them, they are certainly 'the best I have ever had'. For those family members reading, I am sure you are laughing! You see, for those non-family members, my husband has this ongoing, a tad annoying, joke that anytime he cooks something, he proclaims it will be 'the best you ever had'.

But seriously, when he does this with veggies fresh out of the garden, it IS the best I have ever had.....every time! As soon as I get him to fork over his secrets, I will post the recipe.

This mix was carrots, summer squash, mammoth snow peas, onion and broccoli.....gosh my mouth is watering....and it isn't even noon!

Ready for the Grill

Ready for my Belly ;)
